Lawrence Rosen
Founder
General Counsel and Secretary, Open
Source Initiative
Lawrence E. (Larry) Rosen is both an attorney and a computer
specialist. As an attorney Larry's specialty is technology,
but he is also a skilled litigator and negotiator, and is
a legal advisor to individuals and companies throughout
the world. He also has extensive experience teaching computer
programming and has been a department and product manager
in the computer and communications industry.
Larry is very involved in the open source community. He
is the general counsel and secretary of the Open Source
Initiative (OSI), and served as its executive director.
OSI reviews and approves major open source licenses, several
of which were written by Larry. OSI manages and promotes
the Open Source Definition for the good of the community,
specifically through the OSI Certified open source software
certification mark and program. Larry often publishes and
speaks around the world on open source licensing and patent
issues
Larry received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth
College in Hanover, N.H. He then pursued a master of computer
science degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. He received his law degree from Santa Clara University. |

Bruce Perens
Senior Research Scientist for Open Source with George Washington
University
Bruce Perens is a leader in the Free Software and Open
Source community. He is the creator of the Open Source Definition,
and founder or co-founder of the Open Source Initiative,
the Linux Standard Base, Software in the Public Interest,
and No-Code International. Bruce is also a Senior Research
Scientist for Open Source with George Washington University's
Cyber Security Policy Research Institute and an elected
director of Software in the Public Interest, Inc.
Bruce is series editor of the Bruce Perens' Open Source
Series line of books with Prentice Hall PTR publishers.
The books sell well in retail stores even though their texts
are released under an Open Source license. Previously, Perens
spent two years with HP as Senior Global Strategist for
Linux and Open Source, and was president of Linux Capital
Group, a venture fund that specialized in Linux. |

Glenn Otis Brown

Creative
Commons
Glenn Otis Brown has been Executive Director of Creative
Commons since Summer 2002. Before that, he served as Assistant
Director. Glenn is also a lecturer at Stanford Law School,
where he teaches a class on Creative Commons and free and
open-source software licensing with Lawrence Lessig.
Before coming to Creative Commons, Glenn clerked for the
Honorable Stanley Marcus on the Court of Appeals for the
11th Circuit, in Miami, where he worked on the Wind Done
Gone copyright appeal, among other cases. Glenn has also
worked stints at The Economist's Washington D.C. bureau,
reporting on general U.S. news during the 2000 elections,
and at Digital Age, a New York public TV show hosted by
Andrew Shapiro, where he was assistant producer for a season.
Glenn graduated from the University of Texas at Austin
(B.A. 1996, summa) and Harvard Law School (JD, 2000, magna).

Stacey Quandt is a Senior Business Analyst and Open Source
Practice Leader with the Robert Frances Group where she
covers key market trends important to IT vendors and corporate
users of Linux and open source technologies. Prior to joining
the Robert Frances Group she established Quandt Analytics.
She has also been a principal analyst at the Open Source
Development Labs and an industry analyst at Forrester Research.
At Giga Information Group, a subsidiary of Forrester Research,
she created the firm's Open Source Research Competency and
advised Fortune 1000 customers with published research and
tactical and strategic advice on Linux. |

John H. Terpstra is CTO and President with PrimaStasys,
Inc., a company that mentors information technology companies
and facilitates profitable change in business practices.
He works with businesses to realign information technology
practices with business goals.
John is a member of the formation committee of the Desktop
Linux Consortium, a long term member of the Samba-Team (a
major Open Source project), and a well known contributor
and visionary in the open source community with a very active
commercial focus. He is also a member of the Open Source
Software Institute Advisory Board. John has worked with

Closing Summary Speaker
Andrew Updegrove, a co-founder and partner of the Boston
law firm of Gesmer Updegrove LLP, has been structuring and
representing technology consortia since 1988. He has worked
with over 65 such organizations and has been retained by
many of the largest technology companies in the world to
assist them in forming standard-setting and promotional
consortia. Andy has written and spoken extensively on the
topics of consortia and standard setting, has given testimony
to the United States Department of Justice and Federal Trade
Commission on the same topics, and has filed “friend
of the court” briefs on a pro bono basis with the
Circuit Court of Appeals, Supreme Court, and Federal Trade
Commission on leading standards litigation. He is also a
member of ANSI’s National Standards Strategy Committee.
Andy launched www.consortiuminfo.org, a website intended
to be the most detailed and comprehensive online resource
addressing the topics of consortia and standard setting.
He also produces the Consortium Standards Bulletin, a monthly
e-Journal of news and analysis in the standard setting area
that now has thousands of subscribers. Besides working with
consortia, he has a broad range of experience in representing
both mature and emerging high technology companies in all
aspects of their legal affairs. |

Jonas Jacek is the Managing Director of JABZ, an agency specialised in search engine friendly open source development, usability and design. He is highly active within the Open Source community. The economist and advertising merchant is often called a specialist for search engine friendly Open Source software and a Usability Guru.
He was a special nominee for the Dr.G.Wolf Price (marketing) in 2004 and winner of many open source design contests. He currently works as an economic journalist, writing about how larger companies can profit from the usage of Free- and Open Source Software. |
